5 Tips: Safe on the road
As a tourist you are often easy prey for fraudsters and thieves. Blogger Dory behind the blog of the same name thedorie tells you hers 5 tips for safe travel!
Which bag is safe when traveling?
Instead of a handbag, choose a shoulder bag. Make sure that the strap is made of strong material so that it cannot be cut through easily. A belt bag is even better. You wear them close to your body and always have them in view. And: belt bags are super in again – win win! If you prefer to use a backpack, choose one with sturdy material and a hidden zipper. This way you offer fewer opportunities for pickpockets.
Hide your valuables!
If you have everything in one place, it's very easy to get rid of everything. Therefore, leave a few valuables at the hotel: leave them in a safe place, such as the hotel safe or in the false bottom of your suitcase. A passport cover with a card holder also protects your documents and keeps them together. Even when you're on the go, you should put one part in your belt bag or backpack, for example, and the other part in the inside pocket of your jacket or front trouser pocket. Extra tip: Prepare money beforehand that you can use to pay for small things. This means you don't have to constantly take out your wallet and offer thieves less of a target.
Be careful!
If you want to travel safely, be aware of what's going on around you. It's also better to place your bag on your lap or in front of your feet instead of hanging it on the back of a chair and put your valuables away. A very essential tip: always carry your bag or backpack closed!
Know the tricks!
Every city has its own scammers, so it is advisable to google the scams of the respective city beforehand. To safely withdraw money while traveling, also use ATMs inside bank buildings – if possible – and take two bank cards with you on the trip in case one stops working. It is also important that you always have your banks' international emergency numbers on hand in case something happens.
Make backups!
... of your most important documents and put them in the cloud. Depending on where I am and how long I am staying, I also print out the copies and carry them with me as a download on my cell phone. This makes it easier for you to prove your identity in an emergency.
