Handlebar tape

For better handling, it is recommended to use handlebar tape on your bicycle handlebars. This increases grip and absorbs shocks and vibrations. Handlebar tapes primarily focus on comfort, feel, and grip.

Leather Handlebar Tape

There are handlebar tapes made from textile materials, plastic, cork, or leather, each offering different properties:

The classic handlebar tape made from textile material is made of cotton or linen and is known for its good cost-performance ratio. Due to its good damping properties, it can also be used as an additional layer, with another handlebar tape wrapped over it.

The advantage of modern plastic tapes is the construction of two layers. The foam layer enhances the damping effect, while the outer layer stands out for its superior grip.

Handlebar tapes made of cork are particularly damping and have a very pleasant feel. These tapes get dirty more quickly, but this is offset by their relatively low price.

Leather grip tapes not only impress with their unique look. The breathability of this natural material is particularly high, preventing a “sweaty” feeling. Additionally, the durability is higher due to the robust material, meaning the handlebar tape needs to be replaced less often. The tape can be especially stylish when paired with a matching leather saddle.

Wrapping the handlebar tape requires some skill, practice, and precision. When doing it for the first time, it is recommended to ask an experienced person for help.
